Director of the forthcoming Total Recall remake, Len Wiseman (Underworld) is being lined up as producer for the big-screen adaptation of the Top Cow comic series The Darkness, created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis and David Wohl. Top Cow’s Matt Hawkins will be executive producing the project alongside Silvestri.
Collider reports that New Regency is nearing a deal to obtain the feature film rights to the comic, which sees mafia hitman Jackie Estacado both blessed and cursed when he becomes the latest bearer of The Darkness, an ancient force that allows its bearer access to an otherworldly dimension and the demons who dwell there. Forces for good in the world rise up to face Jackie and the evil his gift represents, but there is one small problem. In this story… they are the bad guys.
No word on whether or not Wiseman will helm the project or hand it off to another director. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (The Fighter) are said to be producing the project alongside Wiseman.
No production or release dates have been announced for The Darkness.
