Gameloft has agreed a licensing deal with developer Interplay to create an updated version of the classic Sega Megadrive game Earthworm Jim.
The title will be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and WiiWare in the final quarter of this year, but pricing has not yet been confirmed.
Under the deal, Gameloft will make the game exclusive to Xbox Live for one month after launch and also create a version of the release for mobile platforms.
First released for the Megadrive in 1994, Earthworm Jim was a run-and-gun-style platform game in which players took on the role of an earthworm that develops superpowers after crawling into a space suit.
Gameloft senior vice president Gonzague de Vallois said:
“We are delighted to partner with Interplay to bring Earthworm Jim to multiple downloadable platforms.
“The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today’s gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible.”
Interplay chief executive Herve Caen added:
“Earthworm Jim resonates with millions of people worldwide and we are excited to have one of the best developers in the industry to create this game for a new audience.”
