Back in July we told you that Karl Urban (Star Trek, RED) confirmed that he was indeed cast as Judge Dredd in the upcoming big-screen reboot, directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) which is based on a screenplay written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later) and art by Jock (2000 AD, The Losers).
Now, Variety reports that Olivia Thirlby (Juno, The Darkest Hour) has joined the cast and will portray Cassandra Anderson, a telepathic rookie cop who gets mentored by Karl Urban’s title character.
In other Judge Dredd news…
International film sales company, IM Global is handling the new film and has been promoting it at the Toronto Film Festival under a new name. This time out, the film will simply be titled DREDD. They have also been promoting it with a new synopsis. Check it out below!
“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”
Judge Dredd DREDD is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
