LOCKE & KEY: Spielberg, Kurtzman and Orci Bringing Joe Hill’s Comic To TV

Back in February we told you that Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman (Fringe) and Roberto Orci (Untitled Star Trek Sequel) had signed on to adapt Joe Hill’s (The Cape) comic book Locke & Key for the big-screen. The supernatural comic is illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez (Clive Barker’s Seduth), published under IDW and was nominated for an Eisner Award in 2009 in the category of ‘Best Limited Series’.

It turns out that they were not adapting the comic for the big-screen, they were hired to adapt Joe Hill’s work into a major television franchise. Kurtzman & Orci are teaming up with Steven Spielberg (The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn), and writer/exec producer Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) to develop the series.

Locke & Key revolves around a group of three children who become the caretakers of Keyhouse, a mansion in New England that is full of secrets and magic. The kids discover doors that take them to different places, give them powers and even alter gender and skin color. But behind one door is a dangerously violent creature.

NYMag says that the Fox network is in discussions to develop Locke & Key with 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks TV.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci recently completed work on the script for director Jon Favreau‘s Cowboys & Aliens, and are currently writing the Untitled Star Trek Sequel, Untitled View-Master Project and producing television projects like Hawaii Five-0 and Fringe.
