Earlier this month, we brought you the news that Kevin Bacon (Super) signed on to star as the main villain and that Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) had also joined the cast and will play the young Raven Darkholme/Mystique in Matthew Vaughn’s (Kick-Ass) upcoming X-prequel, X-Men: First Class.
Now, Deadline reports that Edi Gathegi (Twilight, House M.D.) has joined the cast and will play Darwin, who is reportedly the first bi-racial mutant, and has the power of self-protection and continuous circumstantial evolution which allows him to adapt to any situation or environment.
Examples of Darwin’s power include, gaining night-vision after a few seconds in the dark; growing functional gills after being submerged in water; fire-proof skin after being exposed to flame; increasing his own intelligence; converting his body into pure energy; no longer requiring oxygen after being sucked into space (etc).
Gathegi joins previously confirmed cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Lucas Till, Caleb Landry Jones, and Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Bacon and Jennifer Lawrence.
X-Men: First Class is slated to hit theaters on June 3rd, 2011.
