SyFy Smackdown Goes 80’s Pop: Tiffany Vs. Debbie Gibson

Eighties pop stars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson will throwdown with one another, but just not in the context of anything music-related. Both singers-turned-actresses have been cast in a SyFy Saturday night original movie in “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid”.

Before you start envisioning the two in cheesy latex makeup, it should be clarified that Gibson’s character is a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades, where they grow to mega sizes.” Tiffany’s character is a “park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators.” Even though the two are not the actual python or gator, Gibson and Tiffany will have a physical confrontation in a swamp.

Deborah Gibson (as she prefers to be called now) starred in SyFy’s “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus”. Tiffany starred in the SyFy movie “Mega Piranha”.

Executive Vice President of Programming and Original Movies, Thomas Vitale states how this casting choice came about:

“[Gibson and Tiffany] loved the idea of taking [their] perceived rivalry and having some fun with it. The catfight on ‘Dynasty’ was a seminal TV moment and it’s time to re-create that for a new generation.”

Gibson adds her enthusiasm for the project:

“I know that pop culture fanatics have been dying for Tiffany and me to collaborate for the past 24 years! What better way to do it than by battling each other in a campy romp through the Everglades?”

Not to be outdone, Tiffany is elated about “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid”:

“Only in my dreams have I been able to have a catfight with Debbie Gibson…until now!” Tiffany said. “This is soo MEGA cool!”

Mary Lambert (“Pet Cemetary”) is taking the helm for this SyFy movie. Filming commences this month and the movie will air in 2011.
