Walt Disney Pictures capsized the McG (Terminator Salvation) directed 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea before it even set sail. Partly due to the changing of the guard at Disney and the ever-inflating budget of the proposed production. Now, David Fincher (Fight Club, Zodiac) is reportedly in negotiations with Disney to direct a Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) scripted take on the classic Jules Verne story.
According to THR, Fincher approached Disney’s new production head Sean Bailey with a desire to tackle a movie that was a departure from the dark, R-rated dramas he is known for. Fincher/Burns take on 20,000 Leagues is described as being “visually dazzling“, in the vein of Star Wars or The Empire Strikes Back.
