There have been rumors here and there about a movie based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 tabletop role playing game for quite awhile and it’s apparently going to happen. Director Martyn Pick is helming the production of ULTRAMARINES, based on Warhammer 40k. Martyn Pick was chosen for his “renowned and highly distinctive ability to fuse live action and animation.”
Apparently, the screenplay is already being hammered out (no pun intended) by Dan Abnett, who it known for his work with Marvel and DC. He’s also wuite familiar with the source material as he has already penned more than 25 ’40K’ books for Games Workshop’s Black Library (with total sales in excess of 1.2 million copies) already.
While nothing about the plot has been released as of yet, The original Warhammer 40K table-top is set in the 41st Millennium, where Space Marines and the Human Imperial Guard try to save mankind against hordes of alien forces.
The film, is planned to be a live action/CG hybrid and is currently being produced by United Kingdom based – Codex Pictures.
