Dimension Films Developing Series for THE MIST and SIN CITY

While we don’t always report on pilots because they’re so ethereal, and we hate to get all excited about a show that may or may not even make it past that initial first effort and never on to our screens, when a name like The Weinstein Company (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, The King’s Speech) is involved, we take notice.

And while Harvey Weinstein is the name and face that most of us recognize, promoting his latest movies on the morning shows, it’s his brother Bob’s Dimension Films (the Scary Movie and Scream movie franchises), a subsidiary of The Weinstein Company, who’s making our news today.

According to The New York Times, in conjunction with The Weinstein Company‘s announcement of a major move into television, Bob Weinstein has stated his plans to develop TV series based on the Sin City comic books and Stephen King‘s The Mist.

Dimension has experience with The Mist, having produced the 2007 film version which was written and directed by Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead), and is reportedly developing a 10-part series with Darabont.

Weinstein also stated that he plans to quickly follow the August release of the film Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, distributed by Dimension and directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, with a Sin City TV series from Miller and Rodriguez.

The power of The Weinstein Company and its Dimension Films combined with the fact that they are working with excellent writer/directors who are already familiar with the work give us more hope than usual that we’ll be seeing these series on our screens in the future.

We’ll keep you posted.
