ABC Nabs Rights to the Not Yet Published Book THE RETURNED

ABC will not be left behind in the trend to take books and turn them into series. Their latest project, produced by Brad Pitt‘s Plan B and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, is the snatching up of Jason Mott’s debut novel The Returned. It will be serialized as a ‘High-Concept Drama’ and will be written by Aaron Zelman (AMC’s The Killing). Here’s a small teasing synopsis of the book.

A family gets caught up in a worldwide event in which loved ones return from the dead exactly as they last were in life. Lucille and Harold Hargrave wonder: Is their dead eight-year-old son’s return a miracle or an impending sign of something horrible?

Why so small? Perhaps because the book hasn’t even been published yet. It’s not even set to be available on shelves until September. That to me is the most intriguing bit of everything. All this fuss over a book that hasn’t even hit shelves. Deadline reports that there was even a bidding war over who would get the rights to the book.

No casting news or air date as of yet but we’ll keep you posted with the latest as we hear it for ABC’s series The Returned.
