20th Century Fox Is Readying Thier Own 20,000 Leagues Movie

Because one 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie is not enough (apparently) and lucky for us, Jules Verne‘s classic is public domain, not only are Walt Disney Pictures remaking the 1954 film, producers Ridley Scott and Tony Scott of Scott Free Productions are developing a competing version of the film for 20th Century Fox.

According to THR, director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) is in talks with producers to direct the big-budget adaptation, which has been scripted by Clash of the Titans co-writer Travis Beacham, who reportedly approached the Scotts with his take on the literary classic, which Fox then purchased. Beacham’s script is said to be set in the future but follow the original novel’s structure.

The Fox project has not yet been greenlit, and Bekmambetov’s involvement is said to be contingent on his script approval.
