2010 EMMY Shakedown: Many Sci-Fi Shows Nominated, Very Few Wins; LOST Heavily Snubbed

Ah, at least it was nice to be nominated, right? This year’s 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards that aired this past Sunday seemed promising with many more sci-fi shows being honored with nominations, but few actually came away with a win this year.

Most notably snubbed was ABC’s Lost with twelve nominations and only one win for a Creative Arts Award in the category of Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series. Maybe the series finale confused the people voting for the Emmy’s? The many nominations honored the show’s legacy and conclusion, but coming away with a sole technical win is incredibly disappointing.

On the other hand, Jim Parsons had a satisfying win as he nabbed Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as the eccentric Dr. Sheldon Cooper in CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory”, overcoming a loss last year to Alec Baldwin for the same category.

HBO’s “True Blood” had five nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series, but alas, at least Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgard got to present an award at this year’s Emmys.

SyFy’s original programming had finally hit the Emmy’s radar, but also came away empty-handed.

Of the few wins in the sci-fi genre:

  • Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken won the Emmy for Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program and Star Wars: Uncut won for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Fiction,
  • ABC’s canceled series FlashForward did win for Outstanding Stunt Coordination,
  • Disney’s children’s show, Wizards of Waverly Place, won for Outstanding Children’s Program for Series,
  • and Jeanette Diane Moffat, Costume Designer/Costume Supervisor for Titan Maximum won a Creative Arts Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety/Music Program or Special.

The sci-fi/ fantasy shows nominated this year include: Fox’s comic-book based Human Target, Cartoon Network’s animated Batman: The Brave and the Bold, ABC’s alien reboot V, AMC’s remake of The Prisoner, SyFy’s re-imagined version of  Alice, Stargate: Universe, Caprica and Warehouse 13, the poor snub of the season, Fox’s Fringe, and quite a few more.

Check out clips from the Emmy’s and a breakdown of all the sci-fi/ fantasy nominations below.
