New photos from the set of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time“, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as Princess Tamina, Sir Ben Kingsley as Nizam, and Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar. In the below photos you can see shots from the game-adapted movie where Prince Dastan teams up with rival Princess Tamina. As the story goes in the game, the two aim capture the Sands of Time whose power “destroys a kingdom and transforms its populace into ferocious demons” back to the hourglass using the Dagger of Time, which gives the Prince control over time. Although no acrobatics or bullet-time are seen in these photos, you can get a feel for the action involved in the movie adaptation of the game.
In the 3rd and 4th pic, director Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones) and producer Jerry Bruckheimer oversee the production on location in Morocco.
Also in development is a prequel to “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” in comic book format. Announced at San Diego’s Comic Con 2009 at the Disney panel, Jordan Mechner, creator of the acclaimed video game series will be working to produce a graphic novel of six prequel stories. Todd McFarlane will be doing the cover art. The graphic novel will be out when the film premieres in April of 2010.
