Will Morena Baccarin Be Cast On THE AVENGERS, WONDER WOMAN, or CASTLE?

Addressing rumors old, new and continuing, Morena Baccarin (V, Serenity) talked about the possibility of being cast in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers movie and a Wonder Woman television reboot, and Castle during a fan Q&A session at the Women in Sci-Fi themed Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas, Texas.

You may remember when Joss Whedon was trying to do a reboot for a television series on  Wonder Woman a few years ago, Baccarin was rumored to be his choice for the role. Here’s what Baccarin had to say about Wonder Woman:

“The talk was true [about the possibility of being cast for the role of Wonder Woman]. There was a lot of stuff online about it. I’m not sure how that rumor got started but I love that it got started. I think Joss had maybe said something at some point, but I was never able to find out if it was true because it kinda all came to a grinding halt.”

Along those same superhero lines, there were rumors circulating that Baccarin may play Janet van Dyne aka The Wasp, one of the founding Avengers members. Now that Whedon is helming the upcoming The Avengers movie, is Baccarin involved with the project? She’s just as eager to find out as we are:

“Is there a chance? Yeah, cuz I would do it! I don’t know, I mean I should talk to Joss about that.”

There have not been formal talks between Baccarin and Whedon yet, but she’s sure to bring that up to him:

“I would love to [be cast in The Avengers]. I should write him an email and be like “Dude, put me in that $hit,” she jokes.

The latest word on The Avengers is that Baccarin is on the “short list” for being cast as Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) new sidekick. More on that HERE.

Serenity/Firefly fans have appreciated the writers of Castle (which stars Captain Tightpants aka Nathan Fillion) for making references to the movie/series. Would we see Baccarin do a guest spot on the show?

“I would love to be on Castle. We tried to do it last year, but we couldn’t do it because I was doing some other appearances. But I would love to and we’ve talked about it. I don’t know if it will work out for this season or not, but fingers crossed!”

Of course, if Firefly had continued, Baccarin would have wanted her character, Inara, to have had a happy ending:

“[I would have liked to see Inara] making out with Mal, having a bunch of babies!”

Aside from her work on television, Baccarin has done other work, including stage work and shorts. She talked about what she would have liked more fans to have seen:

“I did a production of ‘Seagull in the Hamptons’, an adapted version of the Chekhov play and it was one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had and I just wish I could have gotten everybody to see that. It was such a different side of me. I was playing a sweet little eighteen-year old. It was really cool.

And there’s this little tiny short called ‘T Takes’ that’s available online. Some of you may have even seen it. I did [the short] at Sundance [in 2008] for this guy Brody [Baker], a director that the New York Times hired for these weird little vignettes with actors who were around at Sundance. And I did one about a woman with O.C.D. getting ready for a date. And it’s just really weird and sweet and different. People would probably watch it and be like “hm, ok”, but I just really liked it because it’s so simple and something that I’d never done.

And the another thing [I want to mention] is an audition. I auditioned for a play called ‘Our House’ that I did about two years ago in New York. I was a really ambitious news reporter and the scene is called ‘[expletive] Tomato’ and somebody brings me a red cowl neck sweater to wear and I refuse to wear it because I think it makes me look like a [expletive] tomato. The audition scene is this woman having a complete meltdown… like of like the Christian Bale meltdown. There were so many F-bombs dropped that by the end of the scene, I was throwing clothes and raging into my bra. It was one of my finest moments,” [she jokes sarcastically.]

We’ll keep an attentive eye on Miss Baccarin. Watch out for her stage work if you happen to be in a city in which it is performed.
