It appears that the Twilight effect has made the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” a hit! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the CW’s foray into a TV adaptation of a popular Young Adult book series of the same name garnered 4.8 million viewers and a 2.1 preliminary rating in the 18-49 adults demographic for the premiere last Thursday.
This is the best rating the CW has had to date on a series premiere.

I just have one question for Stefan: How much do you have to hate yourself to enroll yourself back into high school?
Seriously, why would a vampire of many years old want to participate in the horror that is high school? So far, I like the cheese and (groan) emo-quality of the show. I’ll reserve my judgment until I’ve seen more episodes, but I suspect that this might be my guilty pleasure of the fall season, next to MTV’s “Bully Beatdown”.
I don’t know if the starlets of the show getting arrested for flashing earlier this week will hurt the show or not. Probably not since all the boys will be wondering when that footage will air! (Not that it will show the goods since this is cable television…)
The CW is definitely hitting its target market with things like a themed blood drive I read about earlier to promote the show. It seems like over-selling, but these days the commercial-driven media onslaught is how companies make money. The CW is sure pimping the heck out of the show! Apparently, I am easily amused. :laughs:
