I’ve said many times recently that I’m hesitant to post news about shows that are only in the development stage, because our hopes are so often dashed when the proto-shows don’t make it any further. We just had to report earlier this month about Preacher in development at AMC, and now we have equally wonderful geek-love news to share.
TVLine first broke the news that TNT is considering developing a 10-episode series based on the great The Librarian TV movies (2004’s The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, 2006’s The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mine, and 2008’s The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice) which starred Noah Wyle.
The idea is that Wyle’s character, Flynn Carsen, would select four new Librarians to work together, doing what he did: traveling the world investigating strange occurrences, battling ancient conspiracies and protecting the innocent from the dangerous, secret world of magic, on behalf of The Library, an ancient fellowship of knowledge and heroism.
Wyle, who now stars in TNT‘s Falling Skies, is reportedly in talks, and would appear in the first episode and in cameos thereafter. Hmm, maybe Flynn becomes the new generation of whatever Judson was? Dean Devlin, executive producer of the movies, would also be executive producer of the new series. If, as we have to keep reminding ourselves, it actually happens.
Deadline reports that a straight-to-series commitment will be forthcoming dependent upon securing an actor for the strong female role, and that Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart may also be reprising their roles from the movies.
Come on, TNT, please make it happen, and please make it good.
We will of course keep you posted.
