It’s hard to ignore the juggernaut that is HBO’s vampire series, “True Blood“, even if you don’t have HBO! Ratings for last Sunday’s episode of “True Blood” had 5.3 million people riveted to their seats. These numbers are better yet than the previous week’s record of 4.5 million viewers.
For those of you not yet familiar with “True Blood”, here’s the premise of the show:
True Blood takes place in Bon Temps, Louisiana after the vampires as a race have ‘come out of the coffin’ after the advent of synthetic blood by a Japanese company. How do vampires integrate into human society and what is so special about Sookie Stackhouse, a human waitress? Her life changes when a vampire, Bill Compton, walks into the restaurant where she works.
I saw a tiny clip of “True Blood” season one where Sookie gets introduced to Eric, vampire Sheriff, at the vampire club and my initial reaction was “Oh, no, hick vampires?” Cue flashbacks of playing ‘Vampire: The Masquerade’ with small town folk acting out their power fantasies of being glorious vampires. :shudder: While it still sting of this gut reaction still resonates with me, I must say that “True Blood” is addictive. It’s like watching a hyenas tear apart a corpse… while the sexy lion, Eric, looks on. More on my thoughts on True Blood vampires as practical vampires in another article!
As season two comes to a close, Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse), star of “True Blood” gives us juicy glimpses into what’s in store for the human and undead residents of Bon Temps.
Anna on crying and sex scenes:
“To me, I feel more naked doing a really emotional scene than being naked in front of a bunch of people, because that’s really me. You have to trust that no one is going to judge you, or be mean, or tell you how stupid you look when you cry.”
Anna on Sookie-Eric sex (Eric is played by Alexander Skarsgard) :
“She drank his blood, so now she has really vivid sexual fantasies about him. I guess that’s how it works. Because in season one after she drinks Bill’s (played by Stephen Moyer) blood, she has a moment outside of his house…She’s kind of sitting there by herself having a little touch and feel.”
Anna on how much sexier can the show get:
There’s rumblings on how Queen Sophie (Evan Rachel Wood) will be involved in the next ep. Who is the Queen sexing up? Anna would only say, “I like my job.”
Anna on the season finale:
“It’s obviously getting weirder. And it’s gonna get weirder still.”
The season finale will have a special cameo by Charlaine Harris, the author of the series of books that “True Blood” is based on. The show departs from the book’s storyline so even Charlaine is hanging on the edge of her seat watching the show!
“True Blood” airs on HBO, Sundays at 9 pm EST.
