Just last month, we brought you the teaser trailer for the teaser trailer for director Joss Whedon‘s forthcoming superhero team-up movie The Avengers, released by Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios. And, just last week, we brought you the news that Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel would be holding a presentation for The Avengers at Disney’s upcoming D23 Expo this weekend.
Now, before we even see a full trailer from the film, we get some rather revealing looks behind the scenes on The Avengers set in Cleveland, Ohio. Thanks to some great fans who were at-the-ready with their cameras and phones, we have a host of images and a few videos of Chris Evans as Captain America in the upgraded, modern incarnation of his suit, and some serious action and chaos on the set.
Please be advised that there are likely some story spoilers of sorts within the pictures, some of which I will address below, so turn back if you’d rather stay in the dark.

You’ll notice in the sixth image (and first video below) that Cap seems to be doing battle with two men in full motion capture suits, with the man on the left wielding a laser rifle of some sort. You can see that same rifle close up in the last image.

The Avengers starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Clark Gregg and Tom Hiddleston is slated to hit theaters on May 4th, 2012.
