Wowzers! Director Joss Whedon has just managed to add something new to his list of credentials. Whedon is now the director of the film with the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time, the first film to reach $200 Million at the box office in just 3 days, and the largest Saturday box office of all time with $69.7 Million.
Of course, I’m talking about Marvel Studios‘ highly anticipated superhero team-up, The Avengers (which our very own critic gave 5 stars). The film is on track to score a total worldwide box office gross of $641.8 million over just 12 days in theaters.
[Update]
Now that the actual totals have been counted, Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced that the domestic opening weekend total for The Avengers was $207.4 Million, and its worldwide total has reached $654.8 million in just 12 days.
The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Clark Gregg and Tom Hiddleston is in theaters now!
