Supernatural: Additional Episodes Ordered – But What About The Vampire Diaries?

We are happy to report that The CW has ordered additional episodes of Supernatural, bringing the season 7 episode count up to 23, generally considered a full season for the major networks. This is exceptionally good news, given that Supernatural had been one of the shows considered to be “on the bubble,” meaning might-be-canceled, right up until they were renewed back at the end of April. I’d like to think that the order for more episodes is in part a result of how loudly we cheered at their Comic-Con panel recently.

Although The CW has ordered additional episodes for not only Supernatural but also for Nikita and 90210, it has apparently not yet announced the order of additional episodes of The Vampire Diaries. We’re hoping that they’re just spreading out their announcements, so that they may be savored.

According to TVLine, though, this is because the show has an “inability to accommodate additional episodes because of its extensive post-production process” and because exec producer Kevin Williamson will be busy with the new series The Secret Circle, also on The CW.

We’re still hopeful for an order for additional episodes for TVD. As we reported in April when the renewal announcement was made for both Supernatural and TVD, TVD was the most watched show on the network overall as well as by females 18-34. The CW also called TVD its number 1 show  when it announced its fall schedule in June. So there’s reason to hope, right?

The Vampire Diaries is scheduled to premiere its new season on Thursday, September 15 at 8/7c, and Supernatural is scheduled to premiere its new season on Friday, September 23 at 9/8c, both on The CW.
