Last month, we gave you some insights into how Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Battle Los Angeles) scored the headline role of Frankenstein’s creature in the Lakeshore/Hopscotch/Lionsgate feature, titled I, Frankenstein. Eckhart also talked about where he would take the role in this adaptation of the Kevin Grevioux graphic novel, but where is the director taking this take on the Frankenstein story?
One thing’s for sure, Aussie writer/director Stuart Beattie (Tomorrow, When the War Began, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl) is taking I, Frankenstein back home to shoot. The film will be shot in Victoria at Dockland Studios with on-location sites yet to be determined. Pre-production will begin in February of 2012, a little later than the previously stated date of January.
Lakeshore Entertainment’s Andrew Mason talks about the production choosing Victoria to film in:
“Victoria has an incredible diversity of locations and specialized local crew, and Film Victoria’s services and support are really outstanding. We decided Melbourne was the perfect home for this project.”
Film Victoria’s CEO Jenni Tosi is proud to host this production in Victoria:
“Attracting a production of this caliber is great news for the industry. It gives local practitioners a chance to further develop their skills and experience, and builds on our already solid relationship with Australian and US production houses. Our crews, facilities, incentives, film-friendly councils and our film commission services continue to make Melbourne an attractive production destination.”
Summary:
I, FRANKENSTEIN is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, ADAM, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans. As writer/director, Stuart Beattie said, “Mary Shelly’s story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.”
I, Frankenstein is slated to hit theaters on February 22, 2013.
