Stephen King’s epic post-apocalyptic Western The Dark Tower may finally becoming reality with Warner Bros. The studio is “very close to a deal” to taking The Dark Tower to film. Universal Pictures had passed on a proposal for a trilogy of films and two limited-run television series last July.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros would like to see Ron Howard take the reins on the first film at the very least. Javier Bardem (Biutiful, No Country for Old Men) has been attached to the project in its previous incarnation with Universal and is still highly considered for the lead role of Roland Deschain. Akiva Goldsman (Fringe, I Am Legend) has written a script and is now reworking it for Warner Bros. Brian Grazer (24, A Beautiful Mind) is producing with Goldman and King.
Synopsis (Amazon.com):
Set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace, The Dark Tower features one of Stephen King’s most powerful creations—The Gunslinger, a haunting figure who embodies the qualities of the lone hero through the ages, from ancient myth to frontier Western legend. As Roland crosses a desert of damnation in a macabre world that is a twisted image of our own, he moves ever closer to the Dark Tower of his dreams—and nightmares.
No official release date has been announced for The Dark Tower.
