Roald Dahl first penned the children’s book The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) in 1982, then in 1989 an animated made-for-TV movie in the U.K. brought to life the story of Sophie, who’s taken from her orphanage to the land of giants by the BFG himself. A new re-imagining is on the horizon now with a top notch director already attached.

Steven Spielberg is reuniting with E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison for the script of The BGF for DreamWorks and are eying a 2015 start date according to THR.

We’re not forgetting that Spielberg has also signed on (and thus personally promised) to bring us another project, Robopocalypse. So we’re looking forward to both of these getting started.
