Three Days Remain to Help Make “Span” a Reality

Kickstarter campaign ends November 21

RICHMOND, VA (November 16, 2011) – With under one week to go in crowdfunding efforts, the creators of “Span” are hoping the science fiction community will help make this unique film a reality.

“Span” is a feature-length science fiction tale written by Paul Moore about the resilience of mankind. The film takes place 2,000 years after Earth is destroyed. Mankind is extinct and the search for a new home begins on board on board the Charybdis – a vessel containing the building blocks of the human race. Dr. Ellie Carter is one of the custodians on the Charybdis and she along with four other survivors is charged with a single mission: save humanity, regardless of the cost.

Difference Engine recently acquired a 17,000 square-foot building in Virginia they will transform into a new state-of-the-art production facility. A brief tour of the building, lead by Creative Supervisor Todd Allen and VFX Supervisor Bo Mosley, is available by clicking here.

To help make “Span” a reality, the team at Difference Engine launched crowdfunding efforts through Kickstarter.com, a funding platform for artists, designers, filmmakers, musicians, journalists, inventors and more to bring their projects to life.

Difference Engine Films is hoping to raise $90,000 by November 21 and supporters can contribute anywhere from $15 to $10,000 on Kickstarter.com. Anyone making a contribution becomes eligible to receive items, including DVD copies of the movie upon completion and memorabilia from the film, as well as a sense of ownership in the project.

“Just like new technology has opened up a world of possibilities for independent filmmakers, crowdfunding is now supplementing, and in some cases replacing, traditional investment models for independent and smaller studios,” said Moore. “The entire team at Difference Engine truly believes in this project. We are passionate about making it a reality and bringing something that is both genuine and different to fans of the science fiction genre.”

Difference Engine Films is a Virginia-based independent film studio. Together, the team at Difference Engine has over three decades of movie-making experience, including work on Hollywood blockbusters such as “The Matrix” trilogy, “Avatar” and most recently “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” The group’s most recent film, “Unbroken,” starring Tony Todd, Danielle Harris and Jeff Fahey is currently in post production and will be released through Stormcatcher Films in 2012.
