Last year, director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93, Green Zone) was in talks to direct a remake of the 1966 Sci-Fi classic Fantastic Voyage for producer James Cameron‘s Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox. The following month, Greengrass passed on directing Fantastic Voyage in favor of helming Warner Bros. remake of Treasure Island.

Following Greengrass passing on the project, directors like Jonathan Mostow, Darren Aronofsky and Timur Bekmambetov met with James Cameron about directing Fantastic Voyage. Now, Deadline reports that Shawn Levy (Real Steel) has been hired by 20th Century Fox to helm the remake.

Fantastic Voyage is slated to hit theaters in 2013.
