The latest rumor circling the net is speculation that the partnership of Marvel and Disney may be making an animated baby of superhero genes. It takes some reading between the lines but it would seem to suggest that Disney has a “super secret project” that could “generate a lot of buzz in certain geek communities.”
Blue Sky Disney blog, who seems to have a line in to the Mousehouse, reported this about Winnie the Pooh co-director Don Hall’s “super secret project” last July:
“That project, once announced will generate a lot of buzz in certain geek communities, as it’s going to surprise a lot of people for what it is and what it’s not. But it’s in the very early embryonic stage and it depends on how well the project is received upon the presentation that is being prepared for John [Lasster] and Ed [Catmull].”
Then last week, a curious choice of words has been picked out as a secret signal to what’s to come:
“[One of] the projects competing for 2014/2015 [is] the uber-secret film from Don Hall, which will be a marvelously unexpected project if it ever gets the green light…”
The keyword in that quote is “marvelously.” Coupled with the initial quote of “it’s going to surprise a lot of people for what it is and what it’s not,” this may indicate that this new project may not be an established Marvel property. At least that’s what the speculation is regarding this “super secret project.”
A brand new property would be exciting indeed as Marvel and Disney combine forces to create something brand new but is it wise in this economy? At the very least, anything new will be a much needed breath of fresh air in this movie landscape of remakes and reboots! Perhaps that will be the fuel they need to market the heck out of a new animated property.
