Former professional wrestler, actor and voice actor, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, whose legal name is Randy Mario Poffo died in a car crash Friday in Florida at the age of 58. Police said he may have suffered a “medical event” before the accident.
Before Stone Cold said so, before you smelled what The Rock was cookin’, professional wrestling greats like Hulk Hogan and “Macho Man” Randy Savage graced the squared circle. The latter became equally synonymous with pro wrestling as the aforementioned Hulkamaniac in the 1980s, with his trademark sunglasses, flashy fringed robes and jackets and matching cowboy hats.
“Macho Man” Randy Savage was known for his raspy voice uttering his catch phrase “Ooh yeah!” at every turn. Later, Savage went on to become the spokesman for Slim Jim snack foods in the mid-to-late 90s, appending “Snap into a Slim Jim” to his already known catch phrase, “Oooh yeah!“. Despite many new marketing campaigns since then, many folks still hearken back to that whenever they see Slim Jims.
Randy Savage made a splash onto the big-screen in director Sam Raimi‘s adaptation of Spider-Man, where Savage played a wrestler named Bone Saw McGraw, who battles Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) in the ring after the ring announcer (Bruce Campbell) officially names Parker Spider-Man.

Savage also lent his voice to animated projects like Family Guy, The X’s, King of the Hill, Duck Dodgers, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the animated feature film Bolt.
Savage is survived by his mother, Judy, his brother Lanny, his second wife, Lynn, whom he married last May after more than a decade together, and his stepchildren, Devin and Noel.
Everyone here at SciFi Mafia offer our deepest condolences to Savage’s family, friends and fans. Savage was more than a wrestler, he was a pop culture icon and he will be sorely missed.
