Back at the beginning of this month, we brought you the news about director Brian Kirk, who helmed multiple episodes of HBO‘s hit series Game of Thrones was in negotiations to helm Thor 2 for Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures.

Now, Deadline reports that Patty Jenkins (Monster) is contender for the director’s chair on the second theatrical outing for the God of Thunder, scripted by Don Payne. Jenkins most recently directed a episodes of Entourage, and the pilot episode for AMC’s crime drama The Killing.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told EW that the sequel will “take Thor literally to other worlds, primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with Odin (Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds”.

Thor 2 is slated to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013.
