Heath Ledger’s final film was the Terry Gilliam-directed The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France within the next week.
The film wasn’t completed when Ledger passed, and so in a rare move three actors stepped in to help finish what Ledger started — they are Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. If you’re familiar at all with the films of Terry Gilliam, you’ll know that they’re all a little weird (in a good way). This one is no exception, as early buzz pegs it as a strange tale that carries themes of immortality and good versus evil. The film follows the leader of a traveling theater group (Dr. Parnassus) who makes a deal with the devil to trade his immortality for his first-born daughter upon reaching the age of 16. When that date nears, Parnassus cuts another deal with the devil and promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the first man who helps him win.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus will premiere at the festival late next week in the hopes of securing a buyer so that all of us can enjoy Ledger’s last go-round in theaters later this year.
