From the idea of Siobhan Dowd and brought to life in the novel by Patrick Ness, A Monster Calls is being brought to the big screen by Focus Features and director J.A. Bayona (Penny Dreadful), and casting is already well underway. But first, here’s the synopsis from the book.

At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting– he’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different. It’s ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth. From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd— whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself– Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined.

According to ScreenDaily Liam Neeson (The Dark Knight Rises) joins previously cast Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Neeson playing the monster and Jones playing Conor’s mother. Author Patrick Ness has adapted his novel into the screenplay.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the latest for A Monster Calls starring Liam Neeson and Felicity Jones which is slated to hit theaters October 2016.
