Marvel Comics has released a new Ultimatum teaser, following on from the cryptic Wolverine ‘The End’ teaser released last month.

The image shows the Ultimate universe versions of Hawkeye, Iron Man, Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey standing in a group beside the remains of a charred skeleton. The words ‘The End’ are written above them in an ominous red script, and the date 7/29/09 is displayed in the corner.

The image seems to refer to Ultimatum, the event that has decimated Marvel’s Ultimate titles. The previous teaser was far more cryptic, and was suspected of being related to Marvel’s Dark Reign even.

The Ultimate Marvel imprint was launched in 2000. It has given writers the opportunity to completely reinvent the stories of popular Marvel characters and superhero teams, often to great critical success.

Ultimatum marks the end of the imprint before it is relaunched as Ultimate Comics.
