We know that the people involved in the production of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are good at keeping secrets. We’ve known since last spring’s post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier reveal, which caused my jaw to actually drop in astonishment.
But they’re also good at letting little tiny bits of info out, just to hook us. Like we need something to hook us in to anything Marvel these days. Still, the effort is appreciated. Today’s announcement is the casting of Our Kind of Actor Kyle MacLachlan (Dune, Twin Peaks, Believe, to mention three different phases of his career) as a recurring character. He’ll be playing…
Honestly, this is another head scratcher. Other sites are labeling this a big spoiler. Really? More than any other casting news? It’s not like this is some unknown thing. And if the people of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D didn’t want us to know who he was playing, I’m pretty sure they would have kept it to themselves. But if you’re concerned, just skip the next paragraph.
You may remember that computer whiz Skye learned last spring that she may not be a run-of-the-mill human, when Coulson revealed to her that she is an “084” — an “object of unknown origin.” That she may have somehow wiped out an entire village as an infant. Well, TV Line has revealed that Kyle MacLachlan will be playing Skye’s father. See? We kind of expected that she had parents, right? Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing him on the show, as I enjoy seeing him wherever he pops up.
He joins Season 2 guest star (no word yet if it’s a one-time or recurring role) Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess, Battlestar Galactica), according to TV Guide.
And how much of the Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. second season will be a buildup to Avengers: Age of Ultron? According to showrunner Jed Whedon, ““Let’s put it this way: In the second season, there’s definitely a milestone that everybody needs to hit.” OOOOO!
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2, starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge, premieres Tuesday, September 23 at 9/8c on ABC.
