I have to say that reporting on the two live action adaptations of Rudyard Kipling‘s The Jungle Book has been feeling like a bit like a competition that is now finally starting to feel less like competing movies and now more like two completely different movie experiences.

The Warner Bros. adaptation, Jungle Book: Origins, with director Andy Serkis, has been a bit behind on the incoming news compared with Disney‘s The Jungle Book under director Jon Favreau, but they’ve got a full (and quite stellar) cast list now.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Star Trek Into Darkness) is set to set to play Shere Khan the Tiger. Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises) will be playing the panther Bagheera. Director Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will also be spending some time onscreen as Baloo. Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) will be the snake Kaa, and Mowgli will be played by Rohan Chand (Bad Words). This all according to THR.

Rounding out the cast are Naomie Harris (Skyfall) as Nisha, Eddie Marsan (The World’s End) as Vihaan, Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Brother Wolf, Tom Hollander (About Time) as Tabaqui and Peter Mullan (Hercules) as Akela.

Jungle Book: Origins starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale, Andy Serkis and Cate Blanchcett is slated to hit theaters October 21st, 2016.
