It’s A bird… It’s A Plane… It’s A Rebooted Superman Musical

The 1966 Superman musical “It’s a bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman” is getting a modern update. The rebooted version of Charles Strouse and Lee Adams’ play – which was based on a book by Robert Benton and David Newman, will appear onstage in Texas this Summer.

The original featured none of Superman’s regular cast of characters other than Clark Kent and Lois Lane, but Strouse and Adams are updating the story based on a new book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Marvel Divas).

The new version will include characters such as the genius supervillain Lex Luthor.

“Luthor assembles a team of super-villains to do his dirty work for him, arming them each with a different colored piece of kryptonite”

“The villains are all drawn from Superman’s history, recent and distant. The Prankster and Toyman, of course, and Magpie from John Byrne’s run, Terra-Man from the 1970s, the Scarlet Widow, who’s from the old radio serial and Hocus and Pocus, who will be like evil magicians from vaudeville.”

The play will run from June 18 to July 25 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in Dallas
