Greetings, Mafiosi. Today the devs of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning released a video that talks a little bit about the class system of the game, and I have to say it’s hands down one of the most innovative approaches to class systems that I’ve ever seen. Roleplay fans have always been faced with the decision of how to build our stats, and each game treats stats differently so essentially a player really only has a basic idea of how to spend these points with no way of knowing how those decisions will ultimately effect the growth of the character. Ultimately, a lot of gamers end up wiping out their character build and starting over after they’ve learned more about how the different stats work. I can’t tell you how many times I would re-spec my Shammy in WoW after learning how different things operate. It’s a pretty broken system when you think about it, one that I can’t believe hasn’t been dressed before now.
Rather than pick a class up front, Reckoning will have players have an option to spend points in one of three ability trees that will unlock various classes that are called destinies. By spending your points in the ability trees in different combinations it will unlock a different combinations of classes for you to choose from. Check out the video below in which the devs explain this process.
