Last September at the Venice International Film Festival, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Avengers) confirmed that he and Noomi Rapace (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, Untitled Sherlock Holmes Sequel) were in negotiations to star in Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming, sibling witch hunter film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.
Now, THR reports that Gemma Arterton (Wrath of the Titans) has nabbed the role of Gretel that Rapace was in contention for, along with Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds, Fringe) and Eva Green (Camelot, Perfect Sense). Dante D.W. Harper (All You Need Is Kill) is working on the script for writer/director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow). The story picks up the fairy-tale siblings 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident, which provoked them to become witch bounty hunters.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is slated to hit theaters in 2011.
