Warner Bros is prepping to move production of the “Green Lantern” movie from Australia to Mexico due to cost issues and rising value of the Australian dollar. This news updates the proposal of moving production to Louisiana as reported in the October issue of InsideFilm though Mexico is not yet set in stone.
Shooting in Australia would add an additional $20 mil to the production price tag. Warner Bros is still keeping a hold on its space in Fox Studios in Australia though (that’s 8 sound stages) for what we can only presume is for another movie production. The last major feature filmed at these facilities in Sydney was “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in 2008.
Director Martin Campbell has supposedly made some “substantial script amendments” that would also increase the film’s budget.
“Green Lantern”, starring Ryan Reynolds, will begin filming early 2010.
