“Fringe” actor John Noble (Dr. Walter Bishop) calls tonight’s finale episode of the Fox show the “best hour of television I’ve seen all year.” The second season of the J.J. Abrams’ show concludes with “Over There, Part 2” which will feature William Bell, played by Leonard Nimoy as he retires from acting. Check out this interview Anna Torv (FBI Agent Olivia Dunham) on the secrets of the season finale and Leonard Nimoy’s last scenes!
Q: You’re going into the finale this week and in the midst of a really cool story, as you’ve come face to face with William Bell again.
Anna Torv: Meeting William Bell is not the last of it. It’s a fantastic finale. Because we knew that we had been picked up for a third season, I think they had that in mind, thinking, “Well, what can we do now that we know that we’re going to get the chance to go back and revisit and answer the questions that we throw out there?”
I don’t know what to say, without giving stuff away! [Laughs] I’m the worst at this!
Q: I keep wanting to see a bit more of Olivia’s abilities, that we saw in Season 1.
AT: I know. I’m interested to see that. I want to know where that goes!
But I don’t know what I want for the next season. It’s a cliffhanger! You really don’t know which way they’re going to go when you get to the finale.
Q: What was it like to play the other Olivia?
AT: Oh, it was fun! But you’ve only seen Part 1, and I can’t tell you anything about Part 2, because it was a bit of a mind meld. It was tough, sort of going back and forth.
Q: Yeah, I would guess even just technically, it must have been difficult – switching up the costumes and the hair and filming from the other side of the scene.
AT: I know. And they couldn’t shoot anybody [as a double], because the way they do all that stuff – which you haven’t seen, but I think it’s been alluded to – is you have to time it out and have no one there, because you couldn’t enter into your own frame as they did it. So there was no one. You’re talking to air. Learning both sides too was tough.

Q: We recently learned that Leonard Nimoy has retired from acting, and that the final scene he shot was with you.
AT: I know! And it was actually that scene that you saw in the last episode. We didn’t know that. Yeah, I can’t believe that! That was a shock, when I found that out afterwards.
Q: It has to be kind of cool though, to think, “I performed with Leonard Nimoy in his final scene as an actor.”
AT: Yeah! Can you believe that? I got to clap him out. Yeah, that was pretty [great]… But we didn’t know! He’s so unassuming and beautiful that he just didn’t make a big deal out of it. I wish he had!
