Welcome to the first of many Wednesday nights with no new American Horror Story. It feels so wrong. American Horror Story: Coven seemed to fly by, though it started back in October. I thought I remembered everything that happened pretty well, until I watched the featurette below, which gives a great season-long look at the special effects. How could I have forgotten the gator?
Featurette: American Horror Story: Coven – Inside the Coven: Bringing Magic to Life
Of course what we really want to know now is what’s ahead for American Horror Story. Showrunner Ryan Murphy recently spoke with EW and Huffington Post and here’s what we’re taking away from those interviews – starting with the fact that he already has “the next two seasons plotted out, and I like both of them”:
Season 4: Jessica Lange will be playing “a Marlene Dietrich-type, which has always been one of her dreams.” It will be set primarily in the 1950’s but will take place in two time periods. “(S)o much of it is period and bizarre and crazy and gothic. My feeling is, if you loved this season, you’ll love next season. It has the same sort of comedic tone to it.” I hope he means quirky and dry, like Myrtle. Some of her lines from the penultimate episode were my favorites of the season.
He has no idea where “American Horror Story: Circus” came from, though he has seen the fan artwork, and thinks it was just people wanting to make circus posters. “No one has completely guessed what (Season 4’s theme) is.”
Season 5: Jessica Lange has said that Season 4 will be her last, “but I’m going to do everything I can to convince her to continue with the series because I see AHS running for decades.” He does know what Season 5’s theme will be, “because it’s a radically different idea from the stuff we’ve been doing and it will take a lot of playing.”
Okay, maybe there’s one more thing we really want to know – what was Myrtle’s last word? “Balenciaga.” I love that.
We’ll keep you posted on Seasons 4 and 5 and every other future season of American Horror Story.
