One of the funniest and smartest comedies on TV today that never apologizes for drawing on geeky references is about to go even further into geekdom. No, not CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, but NBC’s comedy series Community will be undertaking a quest of their own into the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
How will Community electrify this table-top role-playing game into hilarious television? The show has uncanny, zany chemistry in its writers, actors, and producers. This is a show that cooked up great moments in television with its Halloween zombie episode, the action-movie style paintball war episode, and the Christmas claymation episode. Show creator and showrunner Dan Harmon says that Community is a “huge experiment:”
“Every time we do something different and have success with it, each subsequent thing becomes less and less of a gamble. If I’d had to play by the same rules as traditional sitcom writers, I’d have wound up making a bad sitcom. Fortunately, I haven’t had to.”
However Community will play D&D, this upcoming episode is sure to be drenched in awesomesauce. Heck, how can you not like a show where Abed (Danny Pudi) discusses Farscape in serious geek-fashion?
