Since it was revealed in the final few episodes of the X-Files TV series that a full-scale, alien invasion was set for December 2012, a feature film released that year wouldn’t be out of the question… especially as far as David Duchovny is concerned.
David Duchovny, who played FBI agent and conspiracy believer Fox Mulder in the popular series, was recently quoted, saying he’d like to see it happen.
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
So, Fox just needs to green-light the film, and convince Gillian Anderson, who played Agent Scully to sign on.
While 2008’s I Want to Believe, the second feature-length X-Files movie had disappointing box office numbers, Anderson later said she saw no reason not to make an X-Files 3.
