Before we get directly into the new casting for Joss Whedon’s Avenger: Age of Ultron for Marvel Studios, let’s establish who we already have on the docket. The new faces we’ve reported will be James Spader as Ultron, Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlett Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver and Thomas Kretschmann as Baron Strucker.
These join the returning cast of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
This “new” member to the cast is an interesting one because he’s not new at all. Left off the list above is Paul Bettany who has been the voice of Iron Man’s Jarvis since the first Iron Man in 2008. I say “new” because he’s been cast (via THR) as the android, Vision, which Ultron created to defeat the Avengers. Will there be or how will they make that connection to Jarvis?
And on a totally different but related note, it might be important to add that Ultron was created by Dr. Hank Pym (who is being played by Michael Douglas in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man). Will these two movies connect? Ant-Man’s release is May 1, 2015, prior to the summer 2015 release of Avenger: Age of Ultron, so it could be possible.
So many questions.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest for Avengers: Age of Ultron, starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Thomas Kretschmann, Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader, which drops in to theaters in the summer of 2015.
