Fox has confirmed that not only is a Deadpool spinoff in the works, but that Ryan Reynolds and company will take the character back to his roots.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios will serves as producers on the origin story, which would go back to the time before the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This would give Reynolds an opportunity to recapture Deadpool’s signature slapstick tone and tendency for breaking the fourth wall, something that fans were able to taste briefly in Wolverine.
The story is currently out to writers, but it is understood that the story wouldn’t be tied in any way to the end of Wolverine, which saw the character Deadpool being taken in a direction slightly different from his story in the comics. If they stick to their word, this may end up better than the Wolverine movie did and could be payback for all of us who thought Deadpool/Wade Wilson (and Ryan Reynolds by association) got screwed in the Wolverine flick as far as the Merc with the mouth is concerned.
Fox could really turn Fandom towards their side with a great Deadpool adaptation… what do you think? Let us know in the comments.
