Back in July, we brought you the first look at the construction of Collinwood Manor on the Bourne Woods set of director Tim Burton‘s big-screen version of Dark Shadows. When asked about the tone of the film back then, Burton said “I’m very intrigued by the tone. It’s a real ethereal tone we’re trying to go for“.

Now, thanks to the folks at Celebuzz we have our first look at Johnny Depp (The Rum Diary) as the ethereal vampire, Barnabas Collins. Before you look, I just want to mention that Depp does look rather odd in the daylight images below.

Remember that Burton is likely shooting day-for-night, and is also more than likely going to go the desaturation route when color grading the film in post production, much in the same way he did with 2007’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and Gulliver McGrath is slated to hit theaters on May 11th, 2012.
