Love him or hate him, Damian Wayne is set to make his return to the pages of the DC Universe in a four issue miniseries. Damian: Son of Batman will be written and illustrated by Andy Kupert, son of the late comic trailblazer Joe Kupert, and tells the tale of a future where Damian has taken over his father’s role as Batman.
“I had a big affinity for Damian when I drew Batman issue #666 (in 2007),” Kubert told The New York Post’s Parallel Worlds. “I really liked that Batman and always wanted to revisit him. Damian is a bit different than the ‘Bruce Wayne’ Batman. Grant Morrison tweaked his character in a way that made it very endearing for me to draw. And to write.
“Basically, what I’m doing is exploring the path that Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before.”
Damian, the most recent character to take up the mantle of the caped crusader’s loyal sidekick Robin, was killed off in issue #8 of Batman Incorporated during a battle between his superhero father and his oft-villanous mother, Talia al Ghul. First introduced in 2006’s Batman #655, the son of the bat’s abrasive and violent nature has proven to be a dividing force within the comic’s fanbase.
The first issue of Damian: Son of Batman is set to go on sale this October.
