Cinemax Picks Up New Kirkman Comics-Based Possession Series OUTCAST

Robert Kirkman‘s (The Walking Dead) new series hasn’t even hit the shelves yet, but Cinemax has cinched a deal with to develop the series about demonic possession and exorcism, now titled Outcast. We first told you about the project in March, back before it had a title, when development with FOX International Channels (FIC),Kirkman, his Skybound imprint at Image Comics, and Circle of Confusion was first announced.

According to THR, the subscription network’s deal is for a “script commitment with large penalty”. This means that the pilot is in development and Cinemax will have to pay a hefty fee if they decide to not air it. So it’s not a series I, but we have great reason to hope.

Here’s what the Skybound site said about the Outcast comics and TV series back in October:

Outcast coverOutcast is the story of Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers, but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

Slated to come out early 2014 as a monthly comic release, Robert Kirkman promises a dramatic, realistic horror concept similar to THE WALKING DEAD. Fox International is currently developing a potential television series with Kirkman based off Outcast, which he has been working on for over 2 years. Despite his recent involvement in tv, Kirkman reassured us, “I still love comics, that is my main focus.”

We’ll keep you posted.
