Juicy casting news for “Chuck” fans:

Brandon Routh (aka Supes) will have a recurring role on “Chuck” in a multi-episode arc.  According to sources, Routh will play Shaw, “a mysterious new spy who takes control as the new leader of Operation Bartwoski, becoming a mentor to Chuck and a rival in his affections for Sarah.”

Show creator, Chris Fedak hints at the next season’s plotline and context for Routh’s character:

“This year the evil organization Chuck and our gang are battling is called The Ring and Shaw is an expert on The Ring.”

Look for Routh in this upcoming season’s fourth ep.

What we don’t know is how this will affect they established relationship Chuck has with his handlers.  :raises eyebrow:  Will Superman fly away with Sarah’s affections?

“Chuck” returns to NBC in March of 2010.
