Ian Somerhalder will reprise his role as Boone for the final season of “Lost” (as pictured above). How is his character coming back to the show since Boone is… dead? Even Somerhalder doesn’t know, but who can blame exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse for keeping it a secret!
Somerhalder was wary of including himself in the Twilight trend before joining the cast of “The Vampire Diaries”, the CW’s TV adaptation for the young-adult series of the same name by L.J. Smith, but it was the script that changed his mind and showed him how different this series is from “Twilight”. Somerhalder credits Kevin Williamson, the executive producer for “The Vampire Diaries” whose past credits include creating “Dawson’s Creek”, for “reinvent[ing] television for teens. His ability to mix these two genres is what makes it different.”
On “The Vampire Diaries”, Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, antagonist and 170-year old vampire brother to the show’s lead vampire heart-throb, Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley. Damon follows Stefan back to Mystic Falls to essentially mess with his undead life, interfering with Stefan’s courting of a high school student, Elena, who is the splitting image of his lost love from many years past. In the first episode, Damon reiterates his promise of “an eternity of misery” to Stefan. What that incident was to make the brothers hate each other so much has yet to be revealed, but it is clear that Damon has grand plans for Stefan and this little hometown of theirs. Mystic Falls, watch out, Damon’s come home!

[Commentary]
One might argue that “Dawson’s Creek” opened the door to the television for teen industry for the former-WB-now-CW network, so what Kevin Williamson could do with this show will be something to watch indeed.
I must confess that it is Somerhalder’s character that drew me to watch “The Vampire Diaries” and so far, I am not disappointed at all! He plays an antagonist perfectly and he is the reason why I continue to watch the show. Damon Salvatore is a vampire who knows how to play with his food. What can I say? Chicks dig the bad boys!
