A new miniseries based on the animated television show Batman Beyond will launch in 2010, according to DC Comics head Dan DiDio.
In an interview with Newsarama, the executive editor revealed that the firm will reignite the Terry McGinnis incarnation of Batman early next year in response to fans’ continued interest in the character.
“There will be a Terry McGinnis miniseries early next year. We’ve heard the fans, we’ve heard everyone’s interest. And right now we’re planning to put out a Batman Beyond mini-series in 2010,” he said.
The original cartoon series, created by DC and Warner Bros, was launched in 1999. The show introduced fans to the Gotham City of the future, where the streets are terrorised by a street gang known as the Jokerz.
After taking a young juvenile delinquent named Terry McGinnis under his wing, the former Batman grooms the youth into his successor.
McGinnis has since appeared as the futuristic Dark Knight in the Superman/Batman comic book series, as well as cartoon show Justice League Unlimited.
