David Tennant’s Doctor Who gets animated in “Doctor Who: Dreamland”, a six part series running to about 45 minutes that will premiere on the Doctor Who website before broadcast on BBC Two and BBC HD this fall. No word yet on when it will hit BBC America.
“Dreamland” is written by Phil Ford who also wrote eps of “Doctor Who”, “Torchwood”, as well as the “Sarah Jane Adventures”. The Doctor visits Roswell in the animated series to uncover the truth behind the Roswell UFO incident.
Here’s the tagline teaser for the series:
Roswell, Nevada. The dusty strip of desert where nothing ever grows except alien legends and strange stories about flying saucers… The TARDIS touches down in 1958 and another legend is about to be born!
More specifically, the press release states:
During a visit to a local diner he stumbles upon a mysterious alien artefact that leads him on a mission to rescue Rivesh Mantilax from the threat of the Viperox and the clutches of the American military.
Voice talent for “Dreamland” are: David Tennant for Doctor Who, Georgia Moffett for Cassie Rice (Doctor’s companion), and David Warner for Viperox (villain).
Executive producer and writer, Russell T. Davies talks about “Dreamland”:
“Dreamland is a remarkable project and I’m thrilled with it. Phil Ford is a wonderful writer and promises to send the Doctor into a whole new visual dimension.”
The animation comes out of Brighton-based web production company, Littleloud.
Doctor Who has been animated once before in 2003 by Manchester-based studio Cosgrove Hall Films who produced a animated web drama, “The Scream of the Shalka”, featuring Richard E. Grant as the Doctor.
